Metropole

Metropole is a very enigmatic book by Ferenc Karinthy. I had read it 6 years ago whilst going through a Kafkaesque experience of my own.

Long story short, a linguist travels where nobody speaks his Language. Travelling to unknown places is fascinating but what if nobody would be able to understand what you’re saying? Even if you are an all-knowing poliglote?

The book itself is cryptic, yet very “liberating”. It reminded me of a story which went viral last year. The story of a young Russian named Boris who claimed he came from Mars. Reincarnated on Earth, he was never able to convince people of his own destiny. However, he persevered…good luck in your future endeavours, Spaceman. 🙂
